I thought it would be cool if we could post a few pics of our computer desks/working areas.  I just bought my first house and I spent this evening setting some stuff up for our new home office.  Once I get everything set up (probably tomorrow), I will post some pics of the office, as well as my living room work area.

Lets see where everyone does all of their work/damage/gaming/etc.

Edit – 01/05/2012: Images removed from the site awhile ago, so I removed the links.  See below for current images of my workspace.

I have a few older pictures of my different setups through the years, although I have none of the pictures on me right now.  Of course, I don't have anything thing of my current setup (which is in my room at home now, again).

Might post a few pictures here sometime in the future, if I can remember to post them.

*** Old post rising from the grave. ***  Small enough community for now that this is currently allowed.

Never gave this much thought when it was originally posted in '08, but I'm a little more interested in it now.  I don't have any pictures with me at the moment, but in the next few days I will.  My work area has lots of stuff crammed into a small space.

Tim, maybe when you get a chance, you could post your new work area(s) (as I know you technically have 2).

Yeah, there are now two work areas but the majority of my work is done from the recliner.  Just an FYI, the images from my previous post are no longer valid.  I'll get some new images up when I get a chance.

Got some pictures of my work/entertainment area.  I'll kind of give short explanations with each one.

- My main work/gaming area, my antique desk, and all my goodies/electronics/computers surrounding it.

http://www.mightorindustries.n…..C_0586.jpg

- My current gaming rig, next to my pile of cables, USB cords, and power adapters.  That is a Nortel 24-port 10/100 switch on my night stand.

- Another shot of my gaming computer, which houses a AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE and an XFX AMD Radeon 5850 BE (full specs can be found in my signature).

- This is my night stand which holds a 24-port switch, several external drives, a Scythe Kama Bay amp (not pictured), and a Mvix multimedia audio/video device (the white unit with a wi-fi antenna).  Also have a Hexa-code Andriod figure guarding it all.

- The top of my computer kind of serves like a bench.  This usually where I keep my Sennheiser HD555 headphones and Thermaltake BlackX dock for quick HDD access.  Also pictured here is my XM MyFi radio, wireless keyboard remote (for my HTPC), and under the remote, the digital converter box for my Sharkoon 5.1 surround sound headset.

- The top of my desk with a 24" Asus monitor and a 19" Asus Monitor and various other items.

- Logitech G110 keyboard and Microsoft Xbox black wired controller.

http://www.mightorindustries.n…..C_0600.jpg

- Razer DeathAdder 3500 mouse and Razer Destructor mouse pad.

http://www.mightorindustries.n…..C_0589.jpg

- These are 2 of my older computers: a dual AMD Athlon MP 1900+ (1.6Ghz) box that is currently a Linux file server and FOG server; and a much older AMD Athlon Slot A (950Mhz) machine that is used as a backup web-surfing computer (mostly used with the 19" monitor for game FAQ's so I don't have to constantly Alt-Tab on my gaming computer).  On top is a Logitech wireless keyboard and MediaSonic ProBox.

http://www.mightorindustries.n…..C_0606.jpg

- This is my HTPC.  I watch many movies and web streams from this computer.  On occasion, I'll also use this computer as a jukebox.  This computer also houses some VM's that I have setup up.  The VM's are used for running local site tests, and for some remote development.

http://www.mightorindustries.n…..C_0604.jpg

- My previous gaming computer, which does not have any purpose at the moment except for storing backups.  Also shown is my black Dreamcast – and I still play games with it (through my TV's VGA port).  Plus random items.

http://www.mightorindustries.n…..C_0591.jpg

- Side view of my HTPC and previous gaming computer.

http://www.mightorindustries.n…..C_0603.jpg

- This is my MediaSonic ProBox.  It holds up to 4 HDD's, and currently contains to 2 WesternDigital 2TB Green drives.  80% of my DVD collection and 30% of my Blu-Ray collection are currently ripped and stored on this drive.  It's where I stream my movies from for my HTPC.  I will be adding 2 more drives as soon as hard drive prices drop.

That's pretty much it.  I guess you could consider it more of a gaming area than a work area, but I do work on some web and Photoshop projects every now and then in this area.  I don't have a picture of it, but I have a nice, comfy office chair to sit in while I'm in this room.

Nice Setup!  Amazing that you fit all that stuff into such a small space, but Ive honestly seen worse.  A guy I used to work with at school has a much smaller area and the last time I went to see him, there was hardly a place to sit down.  My kind of place, if you ask me.  Not that my office at work is any better.

So this is my home workspace.  I actually have two work areas at home.  I do most of my computing from my recliner, simply for convenience.  Here's the breakdown.

  • Living Room Configuration:
  • Living Room 1 – Shot of my laptop table, where sits my Dell XPS M1530, Intel Core2Duo 2.4 Ghz, 4GB RAM, 500 GB SATA HDD running Windows 7 Pro.  Connected to it is an old Gateway USB keyboard and a Logitech Trackman Marble mouse.  The laptop is sitting on a Connectman cooling pad.
  • Living Room 2 – Shot of the recliner that I sit in.  With all the sitting I do, you can also see the lumbar support.  Another story for another time.
  • Home Office Configuration:
    • Office 1 – My office desk, with a 22" monitor, custom built rig I use as a file server (dual code 1.6 Intel Atom processor, 2GB RAM).  Next to it on the right is my 3TB Western Digital MyBook.  Also in view is my Acer Aspire One netbook which is currently running Ubuntu Desktop 11.10.  On the left, is my cable modem and Netgear wireless router.
    • Office 2 – A view of my HP Laserjet m1212 All in One printer.  I made a decision that since I dont print anything in color all that often that a color printer was pointless.  However, having the scanning bed and document feeder was pretty high on my list (even though I dont use them very often, they're handy to have.

Thats pretty much the gist of it.  One of these days when my office at work is cleaner, I'll take some pictures of that setup as well.  None of it is fancy, but I'd rather function on making it functional.

By the way, Lifehacker has a whole section of their site dedicated to the workspace.  Some nice looking work areas (although I wish mine were that clean).

Yeah, I wish my area was cleaner, and more organized, but that's what I have for the moment, and it works.  It's kind of like an orderly mess.  I doesn't look organized, but I know where everything is at (not posted is the other side of my room, which is much worse).

On a side note: Tim, I now have a set of those exact Yamaha speakers!  Only problem is I don't have a power adapter for it.  I'm gonna have to one down someday.

Organized mess…sounds like my office at work.

I made a change this evening to the living room configuration.  I decided to move the 22" LCD onto my laptop table and plug it into my laptop (the PC in the office now has no monitor at the moment, not that it really needs it).  Only problem was, with this monitor, it was giving me fits in Win 7 and took me the better part of two hours to get it working right.

Here''s the updated living room configuration.

If next week is a little less hectic, I'll get some images of my work configuration.

I believe all the electrical info is on the back of the main speaker.  If not, I still have the original power cord to mine (those speakers arent currently hooked up at the moment), I could get you the power info from that.
